Karel Appel (1921 – 2006) was a famous Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement Cobra in 1948.

In the summer of 1976 photographer Henk van der Vet met Karel Appel in Paris. The plan was to make a photo reportage about the Dutch painter in action. Seven days long Henk van der Vet photograped Karel Appel in his French chateau while working on his paintings.

In 1977, after Henk van der Vet finished the graphics, Karel Appel walked into Van der Vet’s studio in The Hague. He asked for a brush and some paint and started to paint the graphics! The result of their partnership is the very unique album “Seven Summer Days”. The album contains 14 beautiful silk-screen prints and is released 100 times.

This original silk-screen print is part of the Seven Summer Days series and is in perfect condition. We see Karel Appel in action painting a bird. The print is numbered 74/100 and is signed by Karel Appel himself. A must have collectable!

Note: This work is not framed. The black frame around the silk-screen print is not part of the work itself. It gives you an indication of how it would look like when framed.
